Treatment Landscape in West Virginia
West Virginia has one of the highest rates of drug overdose deaths in the United States and has been at the forefront of the opioid epidemic. In response, the state has dramatically expanded treatment capacity and MAT access. The Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) coordinates the statewide system. West Virginia Medicaid covers comprehensive substance use disorder treatment. The Huntington metro area has become a national model for community-based overdose response.
